Emergency and same-day dental care
Dentist Serving West Allis, WI
Same-day emergency visits whenever possible, and same-day CEREC crowns.
West Allis is a Milwaukee County city next to Wauwatosa, and its residents come to the office for routine care and for the days when something goes wrong. Severe tooth pain, swelling, a broken or knocked-out tooth, or signs of infection should be looked at as soon as possible. The practice offers same-day emergency appointments whenever possible, for new patients as well as existing ones. Treatment starts with relieving the pain, then moves to stabilizing and restoring the tooth, sometimes with a CEREC crown made in a single visit. Call (414) 462-3160 as soon as the problem starts so the team can advise you over the phone and find a time.

When a Dental Problem Cannot Wait
West Allis is home to Wisconsin State Fair Park and borders Wauwatosa. When a tooth breaks or a toothache will not settle, Wauwatosa Dental Arts sets aside time each day for urgent visits.
What Counts as an Emergency
- Severe toothache or facial swelling Can point to a deep cavity, a cracked tooth or an infection.
- Knocked-out or loose teeth Fast treatment gives the tooth a better chance of being saved.
- Broken or chipped teeth Even a small break can expose the nerve and lead to pain or infection.
- Lost crowns, bridges or dentures These leave teeth unprotected and make eating or speaking difficult.
- Soft tissue injuries Cuts to the lips, cheeks, tongue or gums may need careful cleaning and repair.
- Abscess or gum infection Often shows as swelling, warmth or a pimple-like bump on the gum.
On the Way to the Office
- Toothache: rinse with warm water, floss gently and use a cold compress on the cheek, but never put aspirin on the gums
- Knocked-out tooth: hold it by the crown, place it back in the socket if you can, or keep it in milk or saliva
- Broken tooth: rinse, save the pieces, and press gauze on any bleeding
- Swelling: do not apply heat, and call right away
Saving the Natural Tooth
Extraction is a last resort. Whenever possible the dentist saves the tooth with a filling, a crown, splinting or root canal therapy, which removes infection and relieves pain. An electronic apex locator and caries detection dye help improve accuracy in root canal treatment and decay detection. Pain that comes and goes can still signal decay, a crack or nerve irritation, so it is worth having checked before it becomes constant.
Crowns Finished the Same Day
A cracked or badly broken tooth often needs a crown. With CAD/CAM technology the dentist scans the tooth, designs the crown on screen and mills it in the office, so in most cases you leave with the final restoration and no temporary. The crown is milled from a solid block of tooth-colored ceramic, then tried in, adjusted and bonded in place. See same-day CEREC crowns.
When a Child Is Hurt
Children and teens are seen for emergencies too. If a child knocks out a baby tooth, do not try to put it back, but call so the area can be checked. For kids who play sports, custom mouthguards help protect teeth from accidents and injuries. More on tooth injuries.

West Allis Patients: Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the office located in West Allis?
- No, it is in neighboring Wauwatosa, at 11600 W North Ave, Wauwatosa, WI 53226. West Allis patients are part of the wider area the practice has served since 1981. Call ahead in an emergency so the team is ready when you arrive.
- Can I be seen the same day?
- In many cases, yes, because time is set aside each day for emergency visits. Same-day appointments are offered whenever possible. Calling as early in the day as you can makes it easier to fit you in.
- Do I have to be an existing patient?
- No, new patients with a dental emergency are welcome. The first goal is to get you out of pain. Once the urgent problem is handled, the dentist will talk through any further care you may need.
- What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?
- Act quickly: hold the tooth by the crown, rinse it gently if it is dirty and try to place it back in the socket. If that is not possible, keep it in milk or saliva and come to the office straight away. The sooner you arrive, the better the chance of saving the tooth.
- Will my tooth have to be pulled?
- Not usually, since extraction is treated as a last resort. The dentist first looks at saving the tooth with a filling, a crown, root canal therapy or splinting. Removal is only recommended when the tooth cannot be predictably restored.
- What if my crown or filling falls out?
- Call the office right away and bring the crown or broken piece with you if you still have it. The dentist will check the tooth for decay or damage. The restoration is then reattached or replaced, sometimes with a new crown made the same day.
